The Mysterines - 'Stray'

Ever-exciting quartet The Mysterines unleash their first single of the year in emphatic fashion in the form of ‘Stray’.

2023 was quite possibly the biggest year yet for the group. Hailing from the musically bustling shores of Merseyside, The Mysterines have cemented themselves as an unmissable band over the past few years. In 2023, they hit the road with Arctic Monkeys, playing to tens of thousands every night. Their performances at these shows were incredible. Since the tour, fans of the group- new and old- have been eager to get hold of fresh material.

The band have given the masses what they desire, with ‘Stray’ being the chosen track to kick off another big year…

A chilling sequence of guitar chords kicks off the track, added to by a carefully-paced rhythm section that builds real suspense.

Lead vocalist Lia Metcalfe then takes the helm, with her instantly recognisable voice building on the real chilling sound created by the band.

The verses are almost eerie, with the band creating the feeling that anything could happen at any point. It’s balanced on a knife edge, and the way it’s crafted is phenomenal. Listeners will be hooked.

The track erupts in its choruses, with lead guitarist Callum Thompson displaying his talents with fuzzy riffs transcending things.

Bass of George Favager and drums of Paul Crilly drive the song throughout, making for a carefully crafted sound.

The track is accompanied by an eye-catching music video which has been said to mirror the meanings behind ‘Stray’. The band have stated that it zooms in on the untamed nature of the polarities of behaviour we experience when dealing with suffering.

The video captures this tenfold. The band have achieved an unmissable music video. From the first seconds it’s gripping, unhinged and certainly mirrors the meaning behind ‘Stray’.

The Mysterines have gone from strength to strength of late, and fans will hope that ‘Stray’ is the beginning of a new era of music and live shows.
