Cage The Elephant - 'Out Loud'

Cage The Elephant, simply, don’t need an introduction. If “Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked” was the catalyst for their stardom, then “Cigarette Daydreams” was what completely infatuated and drew in their predominantly indie crowd.

The lifespan of Cage The Elephant has seen the band dabble in a multitude of genres, from the subtle punk stylings of their debut, breezy intimacy of “Thank You Happy Birthday”, and more recently, the techno-infused more rock heavy offerings of “Social Cues”.

With six records already firmly tucked under their arms (including the standout live recordings of “Unpeeled”), summer will see the release of their seventh (“Neon Pill”), aptly named to follow on from it’s bright and bold predecessor (“Social Cues”). The teaser of the record came wrapped in the bright vocals of the title track, with the most recent offering “Out Loud” following not long afterwards.

In complete contrast to what the title suggests, “Out Loud” is in fact not loud at all, but instead finds comfort in soothing vocalisations and stripped back instrumentation.

Subsequently, “Out Loud” sees the band return to their melancholy-tinged roots, as “Rubber Ball” vocals pair up with gentle piano flourishes and the delicate synth contributions of “Black Madonna”.

Acting as almost a tribute to his late father, as a thank you for introducing music to his life, Matthew Schultz confesses: “When he died, ‘Out Loud’ just poured out of me. My efforts towards the song were deeply rooted in paying honor to him, and I knew it meant a lot to Brad too”.

Their upcoming record, “Neon Pill” is slated for release May 17th of this year.
