Single Review: Merival - 'Kicking You Out'.

The second single to be taken from Merival’s 'Lovers EP', ‘Kicking You Out’ is a premonitory look at looking back. This sadly sweet song is a partly autobiographical look at teenage love. A lone guitar, coupled with Anna Horvath’s delicately placed harmonies has you floating through the song like a feather on a cool spring breeze.

Horvath’s vocals remain gentle throughout the song but every now and then hint at something far more powerful, kept on a tight leash to deliver just the right amount of tenderness warranted. There is no gimmick here; no sideshow. This is song-writing at its simplest. An artist with a story to tell and a tune in which to tell it, Merival delivers it and delivers it well.

Having racked up a number of feature spots and collaborations in the lead up to the release of the EP, including Swim Good and Darren Seltmann (ex-The Avalanches), Merival has firmly planted her flag in the ground and declared her versatility as a performer and her skill as a songwriter.
