We Are Scientists - Live @ Koko 04/05/2016
I had many bands I loved during my University years, and one
of them was We Are Scientists! So, catching them at Koko, a venue where I have
danced drunkenly to their tracks many times at their club nights seemed like it
was almost destiny-bound pairing.
Openers The Alibi play to a slowly filling up room, and I
will be honest they were the only support band I've seen that have come on
shouting βLet's be having ya!β, tackling the gig as if it was a challenge.
Followed by Flowers, who start off a bit slow but slowly win the crowd over
with their stripped back beautiful indie sound.
By this point the venue is filled with two things, We Are
Scientists fans and beer! Everyone is buzzing in the room to see this band, and
with the backing of all the new material from current release 'Helter Seltzer'
you cannot be surprised. The guys arrive on stage to a warm welcome from the
crowd, filled with cheers and mutual love between them.
Slamming straight into 'This Scene is Dead' the audience go insane, and what follows is forty-five minutes of an intense set with insanely funny mid-song-banter. The audience react well to live versions of new material but it is the old classics that please the crowd, tracks like 'The Great Escape' and 'Nobody Move....' that get everyone moving.
So, having flash backs of dancing in fancy dress at house parties to their
songs, I am loving their new material, it's a lot darker than their original
dance-floor guitar vibe, and I look around tonight at this show I believe
everyone else feels the same, with old and new fans alike. We Are Scientists @ Koko |
