The Band Explains: Venus Demilo - 'Sinking Ships' (Video)
Who: Liverpool based Indie newcomers Venus Demilo was founded by Tom Anderson (vocals/guitar), Reuben Hobson (lead guitar), Christopher Connor (bass) and Ryan Williams (drums) in 2014.
About The Track: 'Sinking Ships' is out now and available via iTunes, Spotify & Amazon.
There's a real, urgent sense of search and rescue within Venus Demilo's atmospheric alt rock offering, 'Sinking Ships'. With trickling electronics, despondent yet passionate, contemplative vocals and intense post-rock esque distress flare arrangements, help is on the horizon and we're all in it together as the track reaches its layered, anthemic crescendo.
The Band Explains:
Which locations were used in the filming of 'Sinking Ships'?
It's Talacre Beach in North Wales. Josh Tilley, the director, told us about it the first time we met up with him. He showed us some images of the lighthouse and we immediately thought that's the place.
How does the video compliment the song?
The song is about overcoming personal conflict, which in the video is portrayed as a guy dealing with his break up; but, that's just one example of what we're trying to illustrate.
Any behind the scenes stories?
We listened to Stevie Wonder all the way there and then got some fish & chips at lunchtime.
Tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
The lighthouse is a symbol of the main character and hope for the future, like something from a Fitzgerald novel. The journey that the character goes on is supposed to represent getting a new start in life; he gets rid of the stuff he wants to forget and washes it away.
What is the message the video is trying to convey?
Keep your head up.
