The Duo Explains: Evering - 'Have No Fear' (Video)
Scottish singer songwriter duo Evering (Chris Yendell and Dawn Coulshed) speak to us about the ideas behind their beguiling single and video, 'Have No Fear'.
Released 24th June, 'Have No Fear' is a timeless track that features a tapestry of styles, raw, emotive vocals and intricate piano work set against an acoustic backdrop.
The Duo Explains:
Where was the video filmed?
In Chris's living room! We cleared out some of the furniture and the artist we were working with let us fill it up with her canvases, sketchbooks and paints to get the atelier look we wanted.
How does the video compliment the song?
There are certain lyrics that are reflected with imagery in the video but we'll let you find those yourself! We wanted to make sure the video reflected the pacing of the song without detracting from the storyline so hopefully we've achieved that.
Any behind the scenes stories?
We asked our dancer Suzie to pretend to drink from a glass of inky water for one of the scenes but she was very committed and accidentally took a swig! There are some good out-takes from that.
Tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
The artist in the video is dealing with creative block and the dancer plays a sort of alter ego who try's to lead her to inspiration. The video plays with reflections and silhouettes to suggest tricks of the mind.
What is the message the video is trying to convey?
It's about not letting your own doubts and fears hold you back whether that's in a creative way or on a personal level.
