The Band Explains: Tanners Pool- 'Bad Advice' (Video)
Oxford Alt Rock outfit Tanners Pool share their music video for EP track, 'Bad Advice' and we speak to the band about the ideas behind their kidnapping-themed visuals.
'Bad Advice' is the opening track of Tanners Pool's debut EP 'Out Of Line' and is a punchy, electrifying indie track driven by Jess Ashdale’s thrashing distorted guitar which mirrors contemporary acts such as the Arctic Monkeys.
Where was the video filmed?
We filmed it in Oxford. We used a local rehearsal room for the narrative shots and the live shots were filmed at Oxford’s Jericho Tavern.
How does the video compliment the song?
The narrative revolves around kidnapping Jess to play at the band’s live shows. We wanted something that was fast paced and gritty to match the mood of the song.
Any behind the scenes stories?
We filmed the kidnapping shots in a car park, so two masked guys leading Jess tied up into a van attracted some attention from people walking past… At one point we were worried they’d call the police but luckily they just gathered to watch in a small crowd. We had to be careful to keep them out of shot - think we just about managed it!
Tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
It was filmed on a hand-held camera to give it an edgy feel and we used lots of fast cuts and colour tints to build the energy. We wanted to avoid the kidnapping plot getting too dark though, so we added a few jokey twists to lighten the tone – I think pretty much everyone ends up being tied up by the end.
What is the message the video is trying to convey?
Actually, I don't think there's much of a message at all. The video is purely a bit of fun – enjoy!
