Sløtface shares 'Empire Records', the title track from their forthcoming  EP, due out November 25 via Propeller Recordings.

'Empire Records' is the title track from Norwegian indie rockers Sløtface’s upcoming EP. Previously named ‘Slutface’, the band found themselves in a social media censorship campaign which led to a name change amid the controversy. However, Sløtface are still producing their nostalgic sound, and are as fun as ever.

Lyrically, the track plays around with the 90s Allan Moyle classic coming-of-age film "Empire Records", with lyrics such as "I’ll find my way to Empire Records", and "Liv is waiting there for me". Frontwoman Haley Shea also sings of being stuck in a repetitive Netflix binge, as well as referencing further movie classics such as High Fidelity. This homage feels fun; it certainly captures the desires of those who grew up in the indie pop culture of the 90s.

Whilst delving into pop culture, the flawless guitar solos work alongside Shea’s almost adolescent tone, bringing a youthful essence to the track. This vibe is undeniably infectious, with the familiar tongue in cheek attitude present throughout, with sounds similar to indie favourites such as Los Campesinos and Blood Red Shoes.

The single suggests that growing up isn’t necessarily compulsory; almost a threat against adulthood. With their energetic and fun sound, it’s clear that this four piece will continue gaining popularity. This release marks another fresh start amid the controversy, and hits the teenage angst feel perfectly.
