Oakland, California gloom pop artist Emily Afton talks to us about the fight she has on her hands in the visuals for cathartic single, 'Lost'.
'Lost' is an intricate blend of eerie electro pop and indie-rock, pairing liberating, dance sensibilities with sobering, inward-looking lyricism.

Emily Afton Explains:
Where was the video for 'Lost' filmed?
It was filmed at Lightning's Boxing Club in Oakland, CA.

How does the video compliment the song?
The video takes an abstract idea in the lyrics (about an internal fight with one's self), and turns it into a story about preparing for a literal [boxing] match. The cinematography and movement of the video, along with the plot of a girl under pressure preparing for a fight compliments the music by creating a cathartic release... Especially in the last chorus. It creates a feeling of "letting go."

Any behind the scenes stories?
None that I can share. :)

Tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
We wanted to created a dichotomy between "normal vs. unconventional", "real vs. magical" to relay the message to be yourself and fuck what the outside expects of you.
We wanted the video to be queer, empowering, moving, beautiful, and fun. The dance party at the boxing ring was our attempt at trying to create a magical world of true freedom.

What is the message the video is trying to convey?
Follow your dreams. Give up on the fight. Be a freak and let what is meant to happen, happen.
