'Monoploy' is the third single off their amazing debut album ‘Some Things Last Longer than You’ out now via Specialist Subject Records.
Doe Explains:
Where was the video for 'Monopoly' filmed?
Dean: On the set of Love Monopoly – an old dating show that got cancelled after one episode.
How does the video compliment the song?
Nicola: Monopoly is very tongue-in-cheek and deals with the bubbling feelings of resentment that come towards the end of a relationship. It’s like ‘OK I’m trying to be mature and rational but actually fuck it I hate everything about you and here are all my real thoughts’. We wanted to make a fun/silly video that complimented the tone and I think it fits really well, the narrative builds alongside the tension of the song and in the end sometimes we’re better off alone, just like Alice Deejay tried to warn us.
Any behind the scenes stories?
Dean: At one point it felt like we were at a wake.
Jake: Even though you can’t hear the dialogue, there is dialogue, and barely any of it is actually what’s in the subtitles. Because we knew it wouldn’t be in the video it kind of didn’t matter what we said, so we were all just trying to crack each other up. There’s lots of really funny, weird audio as a result that’ll never see the light of day.
Nicola: Jake and Dean’s video personas are their actual real life personas, they had to dress down for the video then put on their outfits again once we finished filming.
Tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
Dean: There’s a lot of Mallrats in there, some Blind Date (RIP Cilla), etc. We basically wanted to create an anti-dating show.
What is the message of the video trying to convey?
Nicola: Boys are boring, guitars are better.
Jake: Also never trust a man in a suit, especially if he has flowers.
Doe's unique sound has seen them grow stronger over the past year, and with a number of tours booked up over the next couple of months, and heading over to the States for SWSX, while working on new follow up material for their debut, Doe are certainly a band on the rise!
