The Band Explains: Eva Plays Dead - 'Spin' (Video)
Hard rockers Eva Plays Dead had a chat with us about the video for their new single 'Spin', the follow up to 2016's 'Bones'.
Where was the video for 'Spin' filmed?
We filmed the video at The Zephyr Lounge in Leamington Spa. We had loads of trouble finding a location for the shoot so we ended up pushing the date back initially... and even when we turned up to the venue, the room looked completely different to how we thought! It meant that we had to get real creative but they happened to have a 'luxury caravan' placed in the corner of a room which apparently belonged to Dolly Parton... we don't care if it's true or not but it makes a good story.
How does the video compliment the song?
The song is one of hardest hitting to date and we made sure that we were able to capture that visually, too. SPIN takes a few twists and turns in terms of tempo and energy so it was really cool to replicate this visually.
Any behind the scenes stories?
It was incredibly DIY! We inflated hundreds of balloons within half an hour, we had 5 people behind the camera throwing balloons during the performance shots, the boys were throwing feathers on to a fan whilst Tig was doing her shots... all fuelled by a Wetherspoons breakfast and pint at 10am in the morning.
Tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
Our plan was to portray 2 states of reality in order to compliment the lyrics - being trapped in a dream world in which you find yourself moving at 100 miles per hour when feeling ecstatic (for one reason or another), and a cold harsh reality which is the statement in the final frame of the video. 99.9% of the video refers to the dream state - bright colours, fast paced performance shots, Tig has pink hair. We also elude to being on the edge of that reality as Tig is staring out of the window in to the more bland atmosphere.
What is the message of the video trying to convey?
There is no real message - the aim was to draw a parallel to the experiences that we’ve described and create something as hectic, fast paced and exciting as the song itself.
