The Band Explains: SKIES - Afterwards (Video)

Folkestone two-piece SKIES took some time out of their busy tour schedule to have a chat with us about the video for their latest single 'Afterwards'.

How was the video for 'Afterwards' filmed?
The video was shot in and around Folkestone and Canterbury with Light Tone Studios who we’ve been working with for a while now. We always have a great time filming with Raph and we’re really happy with how it’s come out! It was really hard to shoot and it was filmed back in January so it was very cold! It hit -3 at one point so yeah, was the hardest shoot we’ve ever done, but the most fun one too!

How does the video compliment the song?
The song is all out regret and about how the past can keep a hold of you and keep dragging you back. The whole video concept was based on this idea - about trying to run from the past.

Any behind the scenes stories?
It took us a few test runs to get the logistics right for this! Let's just say we have a few funny out takes - Alie might have had a bruised chin at one point after slamming into the camera and the wall at the same time haha and Jericho ended up hitting large brick in one scene! One of the evenings we filmed we tried to film in a tunnel at midnight but it was below freezing and we all go out of the car, looked at each other and just decided to bail on that scene - sometimes you have to know when to call it a night!

What is the message of the video trying to convey and tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
With music video’s on a budget you always want to keep idea’s obvious, to a point and simple! The song itself on a basic level is about regret… We wanted to convey the idea of being dragged back to your past, like in the way you’d look back at a mistake you’ve made in your head. Having the close up vocal takes in the chorus represented for us that place you get to after going over and over things in your head and how that place can either set you straight or consume you. I guess in the case of the video it ended up being the latter…
