The Duo Explains: Sons Of The Descent - 'Situation In Your Head' (Video)
Edinburgh based duo Sons Of The Descent provide us with some amusing insight into the ideas behind their music vid, 'Situation In Your Head'.
Sons Of The Descent Explains:
Where was the video for 'Situation In Your Head' filmed?
We shot the video in Hugh's flat in Edinburgh. We could have included a shot of the castle from the window but we are not Visit Scotland, and it would have killed the vibe.
How does the video compliment the song?
The song has a fair bit of dark brooding menace about it and the general feel to the video is similar. Our faces are covered, in a vintage bank robber stylee, with features superimposed by mobile phones. Perhaps controlled from afar; disconnected.
Any behind the scenes stories?
While filming someone rang the doorbell. Hugh removed his head stocking to answer. I was in the background still wearing mine. They didn't hang around long. The video was shot all in one day. We had the basic idea but some of the best bits developed during shooting like the eyes on the end of the arm and the poster surrounded by fairy lights which turned out looking like some sort of sinister religious icon.
Tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
There are two characters in the video. One you can think of as the narrator, or perhaps the subject, sort of helping but perhaps making things worse. The other is 'the little man' in the head with the sage advice, but who may have ulterior motives. Perhaps they are both controlled externally through the phones. You decide. Although the video is quite dark, we had a good laugh making it and we've had a lot of encouraging comments, so folk seem to like it.
What is the message the video is trying to convey?
The song is about insecurity, paranoia, and inner conflict. We all have an inner voice we speak to and that speaks to us, right? We do don't we? Don't we?
