Live Review: Ten Tonnes - Sebright Arms, London 20/06/2017

Ten Tonnes, aka 19 year-old singer-songwriter Ethan Barnett, has come out of the cracks of the music industry in the past year and is making a name for himself. With his joyful indie rock style, matched with incredible stage presence he really is one to watch for the future. After the recent release of his ‘Born To Lose EP’, we headed along to the EP launch night to have a bit of a sing and dance.

A sold out Sebright Arms awaited Ethan to kick off his launch, which he did in true style accompanied by his full band. Performing all the tracks from his new EP went down a treat with the enthusiastic crowd but everyone went wild over older releases, mainly the title track of his last EP, Lucy. In no way was this taking away from how brilliant the reception for the Born To Lose EP was, with so many people singing back every word, Ethan was overwhelmed with joy at the response. The packed out venue was fully deserved by the young star, who proved he could entertain the crowd by himself as the band left the stage for him to slow it down a bit and play a few songs solo. If anything, the small Sebright stage was nowhere near big enough for his energetic stage presence and catchy lyrics intertwined with his talented guitar skills. ‘Love Me To Death’ is a personal favourite off the EP, with the slow acoustic sound mixed with intimate lyrics, it’s a special one.

With George Ezra as a brother, there are always high expectations but as EP launches go, I don’t think you could get any better. There is no doubt that Ten Tonnes is on track to be as successful as his older brother, the only way is up for Ethan now! Definitely one to watch out for on bigger stages in the future.
