Single Review: Forever Cult - 'Glass Eye'
Leeds 3-piece Forever Cult have had a busy month. They’ve released their 'Homewrecker' EP and played shows all over the country to support its release. 'Glass Eye' is the opening track from the EP, and it’s an absolute banger.
The vocals walk the fine line between distorted and unintelligible, deliberately drawn out but without sacrificing the potency of lyrics like “If it was up to me I’d make you take the long way round/ But I guess you’re at the stage of losing your mind”. The drone of the vocals is offset by a frantic backing track which drives the song forward, hurtling towards a wall of noise at its conclusion.
'Glass Eye' succeeds because it manages to stay unpredictable throughout, yet somehow avoids feeling disconnected. Jagged riffs and venom-laced vocals add so much jittery energy to the song, it’s a wonder it doesn’t fall apart at the seams.
