Band Of The Week #0017: The Movielife
This weeks Band of the Week is New York's The Movielife, who released 'Cities In Search of a Heart', their first album in fourteen years last week on Rise Records. We had a chat with them about it and the future plans for the band.
What are the ideas and themes behind the album?
The idea was to write a massive rock record , and for it to carve its way into people's hearts. To repay our fans for the long wait. To make something current and important. To make music and enjoy life. Life is so precious and short. It's time to get to work and create as much as possible until it ends.
How would you describe it to someone who has never listened to you before?
Thick melodies, high energy, rampant sincerity.
Where was it recorded? Any behind the scenes studio stories?
Barbershop Studios in New Jersey with Brett Romnes , our drummer. Was up most nights when I should have been sleeping. Mind racing a mile a minute as it usually does. I used the time to write and we ended up scrapping songs we were sure were going to be on the record. Some of the impulsive music I was writing when everyone was asleep ended up being some of the most important moments on the record.
What are the plans for the band for the rest of the year?
We are currently in the midst of a US tour. The U.K. will follow in November. We have our sites set on Japan and Australia in the winter and then back into touring in the States in Spring time. Touring will be plentiful. We will be writing and demoing the next record as we travel.
