The Band Explains: Weekend Recovery - 'New Tattoo'

Kent Rock four-piece Weekend Recovery talk to us about the ideas behind their eerie visuals for 'New Tattoo' taken from their new EP  'Rumours'.
Weekend Recovery tap into gloomy, rock noir vibes in 'New Tattoo' creating a soundscape both spacious and stifling in intensity. Intimately led by haunting female vocals and supported by ominous instrumentation, 'New Tattoo' makes for an authentic, gripping and evocative listen. The track is taken from the band's new EP, 'Rumours' which is out now!

Weekend Recovery Explains:
Where was the video for 'New Tattoo' filmed?
So, New Tattoo was filmed in various locations around my old house, from in the bathroom to the garden - to down the street singing by a phone box (got a few weird looks but they loved it really!) and in my Nan’s car.

How does the video/ footage compliment the song?
It’s a really personal song to me (Lori) and some of the scenes were filmed in my bedroom which is obviously a very personal place to show the general public. The song is very dark which is why we decided to give it that black and white grainy kind of feel to it, but also very simple which I think with this kind of video is equally important - we didn’t want to hide behind any lights and fancy production - just give an insight into the personality of this song.

Any behind the scenes stories?
Haha! A few - we usually release a behind the scenes video but we’ve been a little hectic and haven’t had the time - some of the conversations we had whilst I was trying to concentrate on the singing were shall we say interesting? Me nearly lying in dog poop was funny too. The fake fight me and Samee had was very funny - I can’t repeat any of the insults - but if you’ve ever watched Anchorman - think Anchorman - and if you haven’t - shame on you!

Tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
The theme was that I (Lori) was to represent a guilty conscience and be haunting the boys, the bath scene was pretty self explanatory where I’m trying to wash away the marks on my skin - some come off and others stay.

What is the message you hope people take from watching the video?
That we want to stay true to the songs we write and not hide behind expensive animations or flashy lights (works for some bands do not get me wrong) we wanted it very simple - as it’s a simple song - we have a good sense of humour and are a bit wacky - which we show in our live shows - but for this we wanted to get a little more down to the bone and become much more vulnerable.
