Live Review: Mura Masa - O2 Academy, Bristol 18/10/2017
To nail your signature sound by the age of 21 is an absolute dream and Mura Masa has one of the most distinct styles of 2017.
It’s an instantly recognisable style of electronic sound that doesn’t lack a unique difference in every track. With enough hype around him to sell out 3 venues across the UK, a packed out Bristol O2 Academy awaited him. The real energy was brought to the set by Fliss, who provided vocal accompaniment for the majority of the set and circled the stage a thousand times, jumping around like there’s no tomorrow.
In between, Bonzai graced the stage to perform tracks that herself and Mura Masa had collaborated on together including ‘Nuggets’. ‘Lotus Eater’ was a crowd pleaser as screams echoed through the building throughout the first few opening sounds. Ending a magical set with ‘Firefly’ leading to an ecstatic reception.
With dates in Manchester and at London’s famous Brixton Academy to follow, the only way is up for the young 21 year old.
