Live Review: Nothing But Thieves - O2 Academy, Bristol 13/11/2017

Touring their sophomore album, Broken Machine, Nothing But Thieves are playing venues bigger than ever with two sold out Roundhouse dates to finish it all off. Anyone with a ticket to this tour is in for a massive treat with a set alternating old and new tracks to compliment everyone’s desires.

Hitting Bristol with a gradual build up to the opening track of the set, I’m Not Made By Design, the indie rock five piece graced the stage to a venue full of exhilarating screams. Moving swiftly onto top hit, Trip Switch, which sent the crowd crazy, the whole place simultaneously jumping around and singing along to every word. With lighting resembling their album artwork in the form of cracks across the stage, they start as they mean to go on, Nothing But Thieves are giving their all with flaying riffs matching their intoxicating energy and vocals on point with the record. Breaking in the title track, Broken Machine, just before the band leave Connor Mason alone to perform an emotionally moving Free Fallin’ cover in tribute to Tom Petty. Closing the night temporarily with an apology in Sorry before bundling back out on stage to smash through Particles and end the night with single released track Amsterdam that has a chorus so catchy you’ll be singing it for weeks on end.
