Live Review: Vance Joy - London Omeara, London 30/10/2017

Back and better than ever, Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy returns not long after his newly released single in July 2017 ‘Lay It On Me’. Taking over the indie-pop industry, we went to see his sold out show at the London Omeara.

Kick starting the night was the energetic support act Plested, a folk and pop songwriter best known for his work with different artists including Emeli Sandé, Zayn Malik and many more.  Releasing his new track ‘Habbits’ earlier this year, he has certainly upped the game for indie songwriters in the industry. Performing the tranquil, soulful track he describes as a “messed up love song” the crowd go wild, singing along to each lyric, much to the performers surprise due to its recent release. Blue and purple lights from the stage bounce off all walls of the venue, hitting the crowd and illuminating their faces showing everyone’s enjoyment and fascination with the performance.

Following on was Vance Joy, wowing the crowd with ‘Mess is Mine’ as the opening track, the audience certainly weren’t unfamiliar with this Aussies set. Performing his newly released track ‘Lay It On Me’, his first new music since his debut album ‘Dream Your Life Away’ released in 2014, it was one heck of a come back! From starting the riff in 2012 he has finally brought us this breathtaking track. Oozing with that indie folk, pop combination of stripped back acoustic sounds beneath the soft vocals, it is a lyrical masterpiece which allowed the audience to visualize the story as it was being sung, making the crowd go crazy as they engage into the music and performance.

Finishing off the set, he performed ‘Riptide’, Vance’s most famous track as of yet. Swapping instruments from a guitar to a ukulele he certainly pulled it out the bag. The track left fans stomping and chanting “one more song” and seconds later, the performer emerges from the back with one more song and he did not disappoint! Vance Joy is undoubtedly on route to smashing the indie-pop charts once again.
