The Band Explains: Lake Jons - 'Colors'

Helsinki indie/psych trio Lake Jons  talk to us about their psychedelic, innovative visuals for new single, 'Colors'. 

'Colors' is the lead single taken from the band's self-titled, debut album due for release January 19th via AntiFragile Music. Led by a warm, soulful vocal, 'Colors' is a calming and introspective song that gives life to organic textures to create a delicate, yet captivating and catchy sound.

Where was the video for 'Colors’ filmed?
It was filmed partly in the beautiful nature of Lahti, Finland and partly in Helsinki in a secret space laboratory.

How does the video compliment the song?
Well the video kind of gives you the idea of another dimension. It rolls there in the middle of realism and absurd. There is a same kind of thought behind the song but more in a mental way. The video itself reflects the way the two directors heard the song. And I think it is bit more psychedelic because there is a mixture of two directors’ point of views. I feel the video gives a really good picture of the song.

Any behind the scenes stories?
Most of them I sadly have to censor but there was this one spot where it was really hard to film. It’s actually called the Devils Nest and it has these beautiful old rock faces. But we didn’t know it was also a home for millions of bees. Really angry ones. So it’s kind of a miracle there’s any good footage from there when everybody were either running or waving hands all the time. One of the directors, Markus Kontiainen, also has a habit of destroying at least one camera on a shooting trip and this was no exception. But in this case I think the bees had most to do with it.

Could you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
We are all nature people so it’s nice that our band’s image reflects that as well. For us the film represents the evolving of our music. We are lurking from the woods into the civilisation but still strongly rooted in nature. The main theme in the video was an idea of virtual reality by the directors Raimo Saba and Markus Kontianen. It blends perfectly with our own thoughts about our music but still gives a completely different angle to how one can view the world.

What do you hope people take away from watching the video?
I hope they get positive vibes. Energy into their lives. There’s always a different way of seeing things and that's a great thing to keep in mind in this life of ours. Everybody sees everything through their own eyes.
