The Band Explains: Cub Sport - 'Good Guys Go" (Video)

Brisbane alt-pop quartet Cub Sport talks to us about the visuals for their new single, Chasin’, the third track taken from their brand new album 'BATS' – out now.
'Good Guys Go' is a fresh and sensual track that combines old school r&b with dark yet mellow electronic pop and explores the theme of same-sex love. The track is taken from the band's new album 'BATS' described by lead singer Tim as, "an intimate album inspired by experiences of self-doubt, growth, partying, coming out, learning the power of self-acceptance, self-belief and falling in love”.

Cub Sport Explains

Where was the video for 'Good Guys Go' filmed?
We shot it in our hometown Brisbane with our mate Joe Agius - it was filmed on the street outside his place.

How does the video connect with the song?
There’s a strong connection between the colour palette of the video and the song. It’s moody and sensual but melancholy and gentle. We shot it in real time on a single roaming camera which makes it feel very in-the-moment and captures a certain energy and vulnerability.

Could you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
I had a sprawling mood board with about 5 different locations/sets planned, one of which was a nighttime performance shot in front of a lit-up vintage Mercedes. But after spending our first night of filming shooting the car shots, Joe felt like we should simplify the vision for the video and keep it to the one location.

The result was darker, brooding and more sensual than what we’ve done previously which felt fitting for the vibe of the song.

What is the message the video is trying to convey?
The video wasn’t necessarily imagined to convey a message itself. It was more about giving a performance that captures the emotion and vulnerability of the song and intensifying that with the right colours, set and fashion.
