Video: Lewis Capaldi - 'Rush'

Lewis Capaldi is making waves in the pop industry at the moment with a new single and music video, ‘Rush’, the first follow-up since the release of his debut EP, ‘Bloom’, last October. He has also been announced as Sam Smith’s support act for nineteen of his European dates.

A touching and poignant song that features raw and impassioned lyrics, Lewis is joined on this track by Jessie Reyez, a Columbian-Canadian singer-songwriter. Two different sounds coming together on a track as intimate as this one seems unlikely to work, and yet the vocals are beautifully aligned.

The track is written about the “unadulterated, rawness to break-ups” that Lewis was faced with whilst touring and it centres around wanting the best for somebody you love but also wondering if they feel as sad as you do. The music video is simple and stripped back, similar to the sound of the track. It features both singers in a dimly-lit cafe, that is conveniently playing Lewis’ track ‘Bruises’ in the background in the opening shot.

The video is entirely one shot with lighting changes and Jessie moving towards Lewis whilst she is singing. It is an intimate video that draws attention towards the lyrics of the song and complements the track perfectly.
