Artist of the Week #0039 - boerd

This week's Artist of the Week is Swedish downtempo electronica producer boerd, who's mini-album ‘Static’ is out today via Anjunadeep.

We had a chat with him about 'Static' and his plans for the future.

What are the ideas and themes behind the album?
Sometimes when I hear a random sound in a song, it can be anything from a guitar loop to a sample of birdsong, I immediately get a very specific feeling or thought. I like when that happens and I hope this album can have the same effect on other people. The associations people get are very individual though so I don't think it matters that much what the songs mean to me personally. But I guess the search for those small moments in music that makes me think "wow, I just felt something right there" is a big part of my composing and producing, and a reason why I got into music in the first place.

How would you describe it to someone who has never listened to you before?
That's a hard questions to answer without sounding very pretentious, haha. Maybe imagine Brian Eno and Burial had a kid that listened a lot to Massive Attack and J.S Bach, does that make sense?!

Where was it recorded? Any behind the scenes stories?
It was mainly composed and recorded in my home studio in central Stockholm, and I also did some work on it in my family's house in the woods of northern Sweden where I've set up a small studio. No spectacular behind the scenes stories, mostly me staying up way too late because I usually get a great idea for a new song at 1am or so and then I can't stop working on it...

What are the plans for the rest of the year?
Since the release of this album was a bit delayed, I already have a bunch of new material so there will hopefully not be that long until there's a new boerd release! I'm also working on a new live set that I am eager to get out and play. Other than that, I'm doing a lot of work playing double bass and just started another full time contract with the Swedish Royal Opera for this spring.
