Live Review: The Wonder Years - Manchester Academy, 13/04/2018

The Wonder Years having brought an album out earlier this year, set off on a huge UK tour this April, and we caught them as the stopped by at Manchester Academy.

Unfortunately due to allegations Sorority Noise were taken off the UK tour which prompted The Wonder Years to make an alteration to the proceedings of the night. The outcome of this was that the first support in the form of A.W would start the night off and The Wonder Years would then perform an acoustic set followed by a electric performance. Being accustomed to transforming their songs into acoustic musical wonders, The Wonder Years made up for the lack of supports with their acoustic performance which was made even better with the crowd singing back the lyrics and clapping along to the beat of the songs. This lifted the atmosphere of the room and showed how good performers The Wonder Years are and the dedication they put into their songs to give diversity and a different feel to them.

Now the main event was approaching and we were eager to hear which of the new songs off of the new album they would play. To our delight recently released single ‘Sister Cities’ was performed and became one of the highlights of the night as after hearing it live, it became a stand out song and the crowd thoroughly got themselves moving around the room to it.

The night overall was one of the best gigs of the year so far as the crowd were very much at the hands of the band, chanting song lyrics back and crowd surfing. The cheers were loud and the atmosphere was electric.
