Single Review: LIFE – ‘Grown Up’

Hull’s favourite punks LIFE have released a new single ‘Grown Up’, it’s the first release since their debut album 'Popular Music' in 2017.

Whether they were inspired by their latest trip to Austin, Texas SXSW or the recent death of hero Mark E Smith, we don’t know. What we do know however, is that LIFE are exactly the type of band the world needs right now. With their distinctive live performance and politically engaged music, here we have a relevant, yet original, unhinged punk band from my home city who know exactly what they are doing.

Grown Up’, said to be the first single of their new album, is short but straight to the point, standing at just 2 minutes 15 seconds, the self-produced single is full of attitude. Once it ends we just absolutely need to hear more, with the lyrics “I’m too grown up” residing in our ears. We didn’t expect any less from the LIFE boys, who’s energy and passion is admirable.

Not many bands have made it out of the Hull music scene, sure you’ve got the Paddingtons, The Housemartins and Bowie’s backing band The Spiders From Mars, but in terms of new bands, not much is being noticed outside of East Yorkshire. Hull has always had a vibrant music scene, but sadly not much of the talent breaks through. Until we get to LIFE, an exciting innovative band who have already played worldwide and toured with bands like Slaves and Idles, all whilst keeping their Hull status loud and proud, we predict they are going places very far.

Grown Up’ is just the start of their upcoming second album. Make sure you catch them on tour this summer:
