Brooklyn artist Chloe Lilac returns with new single ‘Special’, a bold return since her debut EP this Spring. She took a moment to talk to us about the track and how her next EP is coming along.

Your track ‘Special’ is out now, can you tell us what the track is about?
Special is about how there’s a semi new trend that's developed in pop culture of minimizing women (ex. a manic pixie dream girl) by putting them on the ‘you’re not like other girls’ pedestal. It’s complete bullshit. More specifically about a breakup I had with this guy, finding out he’d been saying the same shit to a bunch of other girls that he’d been saying to me. I was kinda making fun of myself in Special, like reminding myself to laugh at the situation even though I was hurting a lot.

It is the first taster of your forthcoming sophomore EP, how is that coming along? What will be expect from it?
I’m so so excited to put out this next EP! It’s about young love and my experience with it, specifically losing myself in someone and rediscovering myself and liberating myself from that situation.

What do you hope your listeners take from the song?
I hope my listeners hear Special and remember to have fun not to take themselves too seriously, especially in high school relationships.

Where was the video for the track filmed? Can you share any behind the scenes stories from when it was made?
Special was filmed in Brooklyn, my creative director Jasper wrote the treatment and directed it. We cast a bunch of my friends in it, it was a super fun shoot day.

How does the video link with the song?
It’s cast/created with people all from New York and I feel like it accentuates the lighthearted nature of the song

Now the track is out there, what next? What are your plans for the next few months?
I have a headlining show in LA on the 22nd at the echo, I go on tour with Mxmtoon in November as well as Role Model.
