Beach Bunny recently revealed their new single ‘Ms. California’, the latest track from their debut album ‘Honeymoon’ - due out 14th February 2020 via Mom+Pop. The Chicago based four-piece is fronted by Lili Trifilio, she took a moment to talk to us about her love for Chicago, breaking gender roles in rock music and the key inspirations behind ‘Ms. California’.

Who are your top three musical inspirations?
Led Zeppelin - because they were my first love and the initial reason I discovered rock and all it entailed.
Hippo campus - because they are one of my favorite bands and influenced me in my writing and my drive to perform indie pop music when initially starting my music career
Marina - because she is my favorite lyricist and influenced my ability to capture feelings and concepts through poetry and songwriting.

Is there a certain film that inspires you?
I don’t really watch many films to be honest, but as far as inspiration goes, I really like "Forrest Gump" as he seems to persevere through all hardship and it’s really well done

What city do you find the most inspiring?
I love Chicago, but any of the major music cities I find very inspiring. Hollywood culture and LA I find super fascinating, but I also like the old school vibes of New York as well. It’s probably a 3 way tie.

Who is the most inspiring person to you?
The most inspiring person to me is my grandma who lived a very admirable and loving life taking care of everyone around her. I hope to be like her one day.

What are the key inspirations behind the track?
I wrote the song when I came back from the west coast, so being in California probably had some influence over the lyrical content. I think the feeling of "Ms. California" is timeless, however, I’ve experienced jealousy and insecurity throughout my life and I can’t pinpoint a direct example to tie that into.

How would you like to inspire people?
I would like to inspire more women to enter the music scene or other forms of the arts and break gender roles in rock music.
