Live Review: Oliver Tree - Heaven, London 26/11/2019
Being less than a year since we last saw the bowl cut sporting musical meme, Oliver Tree, playing Heaven - a venue twice the size of his previous trip across the pond, we knew this was going to be an incredible evening: regardless of the fact that this may be the last time we get to see this crazy genius again…
A packed Heaven greeted us as we wandered in, eager fans camped up at the barrier ready for their favourite songs to be played, some even sporting similar outfits and hairstyles as the man himself. Tonight’s support came from DJ/producer NVDES who took a while to come out but by the time he did the crowd were ready to have a good time; starting the set off by explaining that he only wanted “good vibrations” from the audience and that would ultimately create a great show! A solid 45-minute set from NVDES left the mass of fans grasping for water, non-stop pumping tracks, NVDES screaming for them to “jump, jump, jump” it was insanity but in the most fun way possible!
Being Oliver Tree there was only ever one way he was going to enter the stage and that was with a boat load of energy and riding a scooter! Opening with Getter collab ‘Forget It’ which had everyone instantly singing along; ‘Alien Boy’ and ‘All That’ turned the energy up a few notches with the whole room bouncing and crashing into each other as Oliver bounced around the stage like a kid at Disney land!! Later in the set the opening notes of ‘Miracle Man’ set the place alight with excitement, Oliver now donning a ski mask and bucket hat, he was parading up and down the stage like Mick Jagger with a bad hair day.
He even had time to play a new song ‘Cash Machine’ which he got everyone to throw up their devil horns and told them to act like its “2002 and you’re at warped tour”, this new single definitely had some pop-punk-esqe vibes to it, up beat guitar chords and a catchy chorus solidified this into his already amazing back catalogue.
After a short break and some very loud chanting from the crowd, he came back onstage for one more song, now wearing an oversized suit and Great Britain flag as a cape piggybacking on one of his band members; Oliver closed out the night with ‘Introspective’ before thanking his fans “for the trip” they had been on together.
This tour had been announced as his final tour, but after tonight, the level of popularity this man has, we are sure it’s not the last we’ve seen of everyone’s favourite musical genius with a questionable haircut.
