Introducing #0077 - Cubbi
Let us introduce you to Cubbi, hailing from South Africa’s city of Cape Town, who has released his latest indie-electro single ‘GTFO’.
Your new track ‘GTFO’ is out now, what is the track about? Any behind the scenes stories?
GTFO is about a dark time a couple years ago when I was going through a big transition period in my life. I had just moved back home to Cape Town, from NYC, had broken up with my partner of almost 4 years and was struggling to find myself. Instead of fostering healthy habits I found myself drinking and partying too much. I was a mess. I started writing the song after coming home from a night out partying, the sun was already up. I was only able to complete the song after booking myself into a trauma treatment clinic where I was able to take time away and work on myself and mental health. While I was there I was able to finish writing the song with the help of my friend and collaborator Bubele Booi.
You come from Cape Town, what is your favorite bit about it?
The weather, the people, the landscape. It really has everything you could possibly want. It’s such a diverse city and is so beautiful.
What do you want your listeners to feel when listening to your music?
I want them to feel a connection with the topics I write about but even before that I want them to be able to enjoy the music sonically. With GTFO, I want them to want to get up and angry dance. Idk, that’s just the energy I put into it when making the song.
The track is out now but what are your plans for the next few months?
I have a couple more singles coming up next month and then the following month I’m going to be dropping the full EP which is called, “nothingspecial”. We have started planning video shoots for the tracks already out, and want to start putting out more visual content in general for the EP and BTS shots too.
