Director Charlotte Guirestante Ghomeshi spoke to us about the creative process behind the beautiful visuals for Borza’s heartwarming single, ‘Be Amazing’.

Where was the video for Be Amazing filmed?
It was filmed in the Laurentides region of Québec, mainly near Borza’s house in Morin-Heights.

How does the video connect with the song?
It’s a very loose connection with the song. There isn’t a real plot line. The song talks about being focused, taking our time, caring for as well as trusting life, and we wanted to make a piece that would present that freedom. The girl and the flower became for us that symbol of all life. We really only wanted to celebrate that!

Do you have any behind the scenes stories you can share with us?
The snow storm was totally unexpected, but oh so convenient in the end. Borza’s house is deep in the woods and up a hill, we had to walk 1/2 mile in feet-deep snow with all our gear because the car just couldn’t make it.

Could you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
The idea was to make a piece about preservation of life and its beauty to complement the song. The flower came quite early in the process, and we built the whole environment around it. We were very interested in themes of life and death, rebirth, conservation, beauty… We wanted the video to be as positive and heartwarming as the song is.

Is there a message the video is trying to convey?
The video is a celebration to the message of the song. I’d say if people are touched and it makes them care more about themselves, the goal is reached!
