Band Of The Week #0084 - Far Caspian
This week’s Band Of The Week is Leeds dreamers Far Caspian have just dropped their new EP ‘The Heights’ via Dance To The Radio. They took a moment to go into more depth about the eighties vibes in their music and their favorite Fleetwood Mac tracks.
Where was the EP recorded? Any behind the scenes stories?
The majority of the EP was recording in my bedroom. We did some of the drums in the basement but for the most part it was in the safety of my loft. We were originally recording it in an amazing studio but decided to re-record a lot of it as we tend to change our minds a lot. The title track is the closest track to solely studio capture.
There is a very eighties vibe when you listen back to your sound, is this intentional? If so, how did you create that sound?
Yeah I would say so. I'm massively influenced by Guitarists like Johnny Marr and Andy Summers so I would say that is a big factor. The use of the synths will always be an ode to the eighties too.
The main theme of the EP is about embracing the present, what inspired that?
Just where I was at at the time of writing. I was going through a lot of stuff when writing and recording the first EP whereas when it came round to this one I was in a much better mindset. Lyrics usually just come to me on the spot as opposed to sitting down and trying to come up with something so I suppose it is a good reflection of how I was feeling in that moment.
You can certainly sense some Fleetwood Mac influences on the EP, do you have a favorite track or album by them? Which one and why?
Favourite song will always be ‘Dreams’. The drum sound, the chorus, the slide guitar just everything about it is perfect.
Now the EP is out, what next? What are your plans for the next few months?
The next few months will be festivals and getting ready for our next headline tour in October. We've also just started demoing for EP3 so that will be on its way in the near future.
