Inspired #0036 - Raffaella
One of New York’s finest, Raffaella, has just dropped her new track ‘Hell Yeah’, she took a moment to talk to us about all the things that inspire her.
Who are you top three musical inspirations?
Regina Spektor helps me find that which exists beyond the boundaries of pop music. She is my forever inspiration.
Lana Del Rey for finding depth in simplicity.
Billie Holiday for marrying moments of joy with moments of sorrow.
Is there a certain film that inspires you?
Godard’s Pierrot le Fou – it is so aesthetically powerful it gives nuance to primary colors and so intellectually stimulating it makes existentialism fashionable and almost digestible. I watch it whenever I feel stuck.
I’d also have to include The Godfather (pt. I & II) and Annie Hall – anything with Diane Keaton will inspire me, but those would be my top two picks.
What city do you find the most inspiring?
New York City. It raised me.
E.g: my bodega’s mysteriously warm florescent lighting; strangers on the 1 train; strawberry Fields in June; Klimt exhibits at the Neue Gallery; $1 pizza at 3am…
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
My great grandmother. She was elegance, wit, and beauty personified. Towards the end of her life she began to lose her hair – when I asked her where it was all going, she’d reply, “grass doesn’t grow on busy streets.”
How would you like to inspire people?
The best art inspires more art.
