The Artist Explains: Jeida Woods - 'Selfless'
Sydney based artist Jeida Woods talks us through the moody visuals for his emotive debut single, ‘Selfless’.
Where was the video for 'Selfless' filmed?
The video was filmed around Sydney City and Inner west suburbia.
How does the video connect with the song?
It’s mostly a visual representation of the lyrics and how you can either run away from your problems or return to them and face them, making important decisions in relationships.
Do you have any behind the scenes stories you could share with us?
The team was really nice to work with, most of us bonded over how cold it was during the shoot, I’ve never been so cold in my life.
Can you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
The main theme and effect I wanted to use was moody, dark lighting and a strong colour grade. This was to highlight how emotional the song is. Ultimately the last beach shot shows a brightness to contrast this mood.
What do you hope people take away from watching the video?
I just want people to relate to my story. The video tells a story of two people falling apart and ultimately the end decision is what’s most important. I would usually make the decision to leave, but the split-screen shows two potential outcomes that could happen in this scenario.
