Let us introduce you to RnB artist Lulise, who has just released her single ‘Taken’. She took a moment to talk about the release and the wonderful City of Angels area that she is from.

Born and raised in the City of Angels, what are your earliest memories? And where are your favorite places to hang out?
My earliest memories are of me and my sister singing in microphones while my dad played the piano; whenever I had the opportunity to sing I would! My favorite places to hang out in LA are definitely Malibu, Hollywood, and my house. Malibu, because there’s nothing I love more than the ocean, Hollywood because it’s a place that’s always buzzing with exciting people and my house because it’s my favorite place to decompress and write songs!

Your new single ‘Taken’ is out now, what is the track about?
A real-life crush! I had a crush on a guy who had a girlfriend </3 So the song is about the feeling of frustration I had because I really thought that we would be good together.

There are some old R'n'B vibes in this track, is that where your music takes it’s roots? What sort of music or artists inspired your style?
Absolutely! The inspiration for this song mostly came from 70s R&B like Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder & Bill Withers. But in general, my inspiration comes from R&B of all generations, gospel, singer-songwriter and of course Pop!

Do you feel the old school style of R'n'B is making a comeback? If so, who should we be listening to at the moment?
I don’t think R&B ever left! Right now I am in love with H.E.R, this song called ‘Broke’ by Samm Henshaw and ‘When Love Don’t Love You Back’ by Christian Paul!

Having worked on a number of other artists’ tracks, what made you decide to go out there as a solo artist? How does it feel to be ‘on your own’ so to speak?
The songs I was writing at the time are what made me decide to go solo. I finally felt like I had found my voice as a writer which inspired my persona as a solo artist. Being ‘on my own’ is scary, exhilarating, exhausting, and energizing all at the same time!

Now the track is out there, what next? What are your plans for the next few months?
Plans are to promote my singles, perform live, hopefully going on a west coast college tour, writing more songs and hopefully make and meet new fans :) Thank you so much for having me!
