The Artist Explains: Cat Turner - 'Situation'

Cat Turner speaks to us about her intense yet vibrant visuals for her dark electro pop single, ‘Situation’, which encourages the concept of finding positive solutions to the difficult situations we may find ourselves in.

Where was the video for 'Situation' filmed?
I filmed mostly in and around London. A lot of likely well known locations that you might not pick up from how we decided to shoot!

How does the video connect with the song?
Although the EP ended up being named and themed around ‘Situation’ I actually didn’t originally intend on putting this song on this EP. As the song says I felt like I hit a ceiling in life but then all at once I started to travel and live a little again so I felt it had to be released now and it being shot in another country made perfect sense to me. It’s me literally being out of the situation I was in and also visually being very out of place with the situations happening in the video.

Do you have any behind the scenes stories you could share with us?
I can’t think of one specific moment although behind the scenes I was eating, drinking, heading to museums and visiting the Harry Potter tour ha! As I film very DIY and it’s just myself and normally one or two friends it’s generally super on the fly and based on what looks/feels good!

Could you tell us about the ideas/ themes/ imagery used?
The colours in this video were pretty important to me. I knew I’d be out in the world that might not bend to colour scheme so I could be those pops of colour. Visually that made sense too as it sort of looks like I don’t belong in most places. I also felt the movement in the background and actually seeing other people there helped make it feel more lonely but as if I’m actually moving in life. I wanted this video to be a little more fun in contrast to some of my other stuff.

Shopping for this video was a lot of fun and I actually bought a sick red pvc type shirt that didn’t make the cut but will appear somewhere soon!

What do you hope people take away from watching the video?
Some videos I’ve already released and the next video I am sharing don’t always have a resolution so for this one I wanted it to be more positive. I make visuals for every song and they make more sense when taken in together. I’m not hopeless but I’m not always positive.

With this video if people took a moment to think about the situations they are in, what's happening in their life and helped themselves with the things they can change and fix that’d be amazing.

I started to feel a little more like a human person with a life around this time rather than being so consumed with achieving. You doing you helps you achieve anyway in my opinion. Do you xo
