Inspired #0050 - Ellen Krauss
Rising Swedish pop artist Ellen Krauss has just dropped her brand new single ‘Criminal To Love’. She took a moment to talk to us about Bruce Springsteen and why Stockholm is always going to be home.
Who are your top three musical inspirations?
Honestly I listen to all kinds of music and I take inspirations from a lot of diferent genres. However, I've been highly influenced by Ed Sheeran. From an early age I was immediately drawn to his grounded and genuine approach to life in general, but above all, his fucking amazing ability to make everything feel relatable and personal. Other than that, I've grown up listening to everything from Dire Straights and Bruce Springsteen to Coldplay and Kings Of Leon. It must have been my dad who made me listen to old men who play guitar. We often listened and sang along in the car, whilst driving. I still like that.
Is there a certain film that inspires you?
The movie based on the novell "Call Me By Your Name". Hands down. The story in general is so romantic, yet complicated and when I saw it in the theaters I was blown away. The music in the film is just beautiful, specially the music by Sufjan Stevens. Also, a great thing about the movie is of course that they bring up LGBTQ-relations and all that comes with it.
What city do you find the most inspiring?
I don't know really... Stockholm is always gonna be my home, but having lived abroad in South Africa and travelled a lot, I know that the idea of "home" can be anywhere. Although, I love New York. Waking up there is such a mood booster. Manhattan makes me feel so small yet empowered in some way!
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
Sometimes I get very inspired by my younger cousins and brothers. Like when did they become so intelligent? Kids today are so bright. I like hearing their thoughts on the world and it's nice to take advice from young people instead of adults all the time. Cuz grown ups can be such idiots. ;)
How would you like to inspire people?
I would love to inspire people through my music. That would be cool. But right now I'm just trying to figure out how to live my life and be a nice person. I am still very young and I live with my mom, so I guess it's normal to not know everything.
