A Day In The Life Of #007 - Alexander Teller

With the sound of his latest single ‘A Cigarette That Never Goes Out’ ringing in our ears, we chat to Alexander Teller about a typical day in his shoes.

My Alarm goes off...
Earlier than I'd like, but later than i deserve.

The first thing I do...
Scroll social media to stir myself into a wakeful discontent. Once cleansed of any of my own thoughts, I am ready to begin the day.

My typical day involves..
Making lots of music, although rarely for myself. I want to try and make my snare drum sound like Bryan Devendorf's from The National. How do they make it sound so beefy? I mean like on "Slow Show", that's a really good song. I have no idea what's going on in the lyrics but I think that's why I like them.

I've been making some scores. I'm learning how to write string parts for that. You can do some really discordant stuff with strings that you can't really get away with on other instruments. But then again, a good string player can make anything sound beautiful.

I like biking to my studio along Peckham Road. Sometimes a van will accidentally try and kill you, or a pedestrian will accidentally try and make you kill them when you're going through that bit near Wetherspoons, but that all adds to the spice. Although I did used to write more when I took the bus. Maybe there's a case for both.

The best part of my day..
Fantasising about the ways in which i will wield my hideous strength, once granted to me by my followers.

The worst part of my day is when..
My microwave doesn't properly heat the centre of my high protein, low carb, low GI meal prep

At the end of my day i will..
Try and fail to remember what exactly it was that I did this day, week, or even month.

If i wasn't a musician I'd be a..
Different kind of cult leader
