The Director Explains: ST3PH - 'Champion'
We speak to Director @directed_by_Billy about the music video for London born artist and producer ST3PH’s powerful single, ‘Champion’.
Where was the video for ‘Champion’ filmed?
The visuals for Champion were shot between midnight and sunrise capturing St3ph and his ever growing entourage taking a stroll between Canary Wharf in London, all the way to the white cliffs of Dover.
How does the video connect with the song?
The song is about St3ph’s belief in himself. He feels like a champion. The visual is an invitation for people to follow him on his journey to greatness. The metaphor of taking Steph and his peoples from the heart of a bustling city to the ends of the earth, is designed to symbolise just how far St3ph is prepared to go.
Do you have any behind the scenes stories you can share with us?
To shoot the video, St3ph and a group of close friends all jumped in a mini van and had a party. The driver drove them over night to various locations and they would get out and shoot a portion of the song. It was a lot of fun in that bus. Hennessy, black jack, laughter, music. Good times.
Is there a message the video is trying to convey?
The overall message, which is summed up by the rising sun and the ocean at the end of the visual, is that if you are prepared to push yourself, there is light and positive energy at the end of the journey.
