Track-By-Track: Nicky William - 'I Want To Feel It All EP'
Alt-folk artist Nicky William has just released his new EP ‘I Want To Feel It All’ - a selection of raw songs that we can all relate to. He took a moment to talk to us about the release - track by track.
I Fell In Love With Her
I Fell In Love With Her is a song where the idea behind it is quite childish and naïve. The feeling of not being desirable is probably pretty universal, but this idea of a romantic interest that everyone is condemned to pine for in hopelessness may not be so realistic. However, that was the feeling I have felt many times, so I wanted to convey that feeling in the song.
Feel It All
A couple of years ago I was talking to a friend during a time when I was very depressed. She told me that when she had gone through a tough period of time, she was so exhausted from not being able to feel anything. Even though she was aware of the ‘right’ feelings to feel, she just couldn't. It resonated with me very deeply. The track is a swinging pendulum of total apathy and feeling extremely fragile.
Pathetic Fuck
The goal for me is to express myself as honestly as possible, and with Pathetic Fuck there is no masking of my pettiness or anger. I wanted the emotions to control the song without embellishments or poetic metaphors.
Pleasant to the Eye
Pleasant to the Eye is another song where the inspiration came from not feeling desirable. It’s a recurring theme in my songs, though here it’s more focused on the exterior. Although I do not consider myself a superficial person who places a lot of emphasis on appearance, we all have our moments of weakness. Even though I do not believe in the ideology the song highlights, I always find it more important to convey feeling.
You Are Burning
Being stuck in a hopelessly broken relationship, with only a fragment of hope was the feeling I was looking for in this song. Expressing feelings that one may not have an outlet for in everyday life is the biggest reason I write. In You Are Burning; I am angry, weak and even bitter… but also very aware of the difficulties that I am going through.
