Inspired #172 - Tiz McNamara
Irish singer songwriter Tiz McNamara warms our souls with his newest track ‘Miami Night Sky’ - he took a moment to talk to us about the inspirations behind his music.
Who are your top three musical inspirations?
Damien Rice, for me I've never seen someone as masterful at their craft as him with just an acoustic or piano and controlling the entire audience.
Bon Iver (Justin Vernon), I think he has massively pushed the boundaries of music and his talent and soul seem second to none.
Eminem, personally he is the greatest lyricist I have ever come across.
Is there a certain film that inspires you?
Anything by Wes Anderson I adore and love the crazy alternate worlds he creates. Very inspiring. In recent years I think Grand Budapest Hotels my favourite of his.
What city do you find the most inspiring?
New York, the mix of cultures, languages, art. The rich, the poor it has it all. It's also the first place I ever performed my original music so holds a special place always.
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
It sounds cheesy but my mother for sure. She raised three children under the age of 7 on her own and has dealt with incredible adversity. She is one of the strongest, most courageous and encouraging human I have met
What were your inspirations when writing your new track?
A lot of them just come from what feels like a deep subconscious place. I have experienced quite a lot of death of those close to me so that definitely influences my writing but lately it's been about life changes like moving from Ireland to Canada, relationships etc
How would you like to inspire people?
I would love people to see my success as a totally normal person and realise that any of us can do anything we put our minds to with commitment and create something lasting and pure.
