With a rapidly-growing reputation for fusing multiple layers of genres into her music, Jasmine Rodgers is back with another single - ‘Flies’. She took a moment to talk to us about the inspiration behind the track and her music.

Who are your top three musical inspirations?
It's ever changing isn't it? I'll always listen to Siouxie Sioux though. Lately I've been relistening to Eartha Kitt, I loved how she made everything her own and kept cool but funny. I'm also listening to Shniece McMenamin at the moment- loving her voice and her music is on repeat.

Is there a certain film that inspires you?
My Octopus Teacher was very beautiful. I love all things marine and the relationship with the octopus and the camera man was very moving. It was gorgeous to get lost in the sea for a while.

What city do you find the most inspiring?
I love my London. It's a good place. It's embraced me as a person of mixed cultures and is a treasure trove for curious people like me.

Who is the most inspiring person to you?
Probably my best friend, who raises her family, works full time,  is insanely talented, always supportive, always kind and always finds the funny in everything. She never loses her temper. I wish I was a bit better at that!

What were your inspirations when writing your new track?
I wrote it in a summer time, when I saw a fly trapped between the sealed windows of a London tube,  it got me thinking about how my problems seem minimal in comparison....I was lately reminded of a quote by Charles Addams,
“Normal is an illusion. What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly.” and I think that's pretty apt.

How would you like to inspire people?
I would like people to feel like they don't have to stick to one genre musically.
