Colorado indie-pop foursome VYNYL have released the first taster of their forthcoming EP (out in January), with new single ‘Quite Like You’. The track is a catchy number that carries the listener with an infectious beat to echoes of early sounds of the 1975. They took a moment to talk to us about the track.

Hey there VYNYL - how does it feel to be releasing music during this strange time for the creative industry?
Releasing music during these unprecedented times is definitely strange and uncertain, although we as a band feel that people need music and self expression more so than ever before. With the absurdity of everything going on, we’ve been inspired to rethink our creative process and feel more empowered to take risks with our music. In a time where things are looking less promising than ever, we need to remember music stays alive because it lives within us. More than anything, we’re excited to share what we’ve been working so hard on and how we’ve grown as artists!

Your track ‘Quite Like You’ is out now, can you tell us what the track is about?
‘Quite Like You’ stems from the fear of never finding love again, and all the uncertainty and pain that come after a big breakup. Every relationship is different, and no one loves quite the same way. We wanted the track to highlight and reflect all the complicated, bittersweetness that comes in that period.

This is the first teaser of your new EP - how is that coming along? When can we get to hear it?
The EP is coming along really nicely! It’s definitely been one of the most challenging musical projects we’ve ever worked on and we’re certainly treading on new ground, expanding the VYNYL sound. We have a variety of tracks that we can’t wait to share with you all, and hopefully you will love them as much as we do! Our next single ‘heart//break’ will be coming out December 4th, and the EP release is scheduled for January!
We’re definitely hoping our listeners gain a deeper insight into who we are as people and artists; We’re all human, and we have unifying emotions that link and connect us. We hope people can connect to the emotion of the lyrics and the feeling behind the song, because it definitely resonates with all of us. We hope it resonates with you!

Any behind the scenes stories from the recording process that you are happy to share with us?
We recorded this song at the famous Blasting Room Studios as one of the prizes for winning Denver’s KTCL Channel 93.3’s Hometown for the Holidays - it was a dream come true! This year has been full of challenges and we’ve had to make a lot of sacrifices, so we were extremely grateful to still have the opportunity to record new music. ‘Quite Like You’ went through several stages where we played around with the sound and different emotions portrayed in the song. One version was sonically darker, another far brighter and upbeat - we eventually found a sweet spot between the two.
