Inspired #179 - GRANT
Swedish Grammy nominated alt-pop artist GRANT has just released her new EP ‘Vertigo’ via Sony Music Sweden, it is a collection of euphoric pop track tackling the feelings felt in a long-term relationships. She took a moment to discuss with us the inspiration behind her music and the EP.
Who are your top three musical inspirations?
The most difficult question first as should be!
Nina Simone, Björk and Kate Bush are artists that definitely have shaped me, and are artists I come back to over and over again. But top musical inspirations change all the time, at the moment I’m really into new beat and early house music. I’ve been listening to a lot of Prince, James Blake’s new EP, Shygirl and Siouxsie and Banshees as well. Definitely a mix, but they all inspire in their own way and it’s just really good music.
Is there a certain film that inspires you?
I’ve been really into Ingmar Bergman lately. I watched his 'A Lesson in Love' yesterday and it’s actually really funny and absurd in a way that you don’t expect from Bergman, but paints a really sincere picture of a relationship. Movies are amazing! My favourite kind of magic.
What city do you find the most inspiring?
Paris! Out of all the cities I’ve been to so far, it’s the one I’ve felt the most vibrant in. I’ve had many of my first times there and it feels equally thrilling and comforting to be there.
Who is the most inspiring person to you?
Angelina Bergenwall - photographer, professional bon vivant and my best friend. She has an incredible work ethic and desire to do the most of her life with heart and mind in everything. She’s a naughty adventurer with impeccable taste. Life became ten times more colourful the minute she grabbed on to me five years ago.
What were your inspirations when writing your new EP?
My boyfriend, Arvid, and every movie I’ve seen and book I’ve read since meeting him that helped make love more comprehensible to me.
How would you like to inspire people?
I think I’d like to inspire people to feel comfortable with feeling a lot, and even though I can’t give them any solutions I’d like to offer a light.
