Inspired #169: Five Days North

We catch up with Five Days North ahead of the release of their new single, ‘Heaven Hold Us’.

Who are your top three musical inspirations?
The 1975, Blossoms, Dua Lipa - Zo

Is there a certain film that inspires you?
A film we all love is School of Rock. Whilst it's brilliantly made from a comedy point of view, it features so many great songs and Jack Black's portrayal of a struggling musician is both relatable and hilarious in equal measure! - Sam

What city do you find the most inspiring?
How could we answer anything other than Manchester? We all met at the University of Manchester and have all been inspired one way or another ourselves by the influential music scene we've always been proud to be a part of. We've attended and played gigs throughout the vast scale of venues, from the little taverns in northern Quarter to headlining Academy 3 and watching bands at the M.E.N arena. If you're a musician at any level, experienced and want a change or brand new to the game and want to get your music known, Manchester is the place to be - Darryl

Who is the most inspiring person to you?
There was no way we could agree on this as a band, but one of my biggest inspirations is the late Peter Green. Not only did the man found one of the greatest musical dynasties in Fleetwood Mac, but he continually shone a light on the other young talents in his band and rejected the worst commercial excesses of “the bizness”. Not to mention his haunting, reverb-drenched music that sounds so otherworldly. There are few musicians who have said so much with so little - Lewis

What were your inspirations when writing ‘Heaven Hold Us’?
Lyrically the track was inspired by the unique combination of excitement, nerves and euphoria that encompasses dating life. While the anthemic sound was the product of listening to a band called coasts a lot at the time, and being inspired by their huge sound - Dave

How would you like to inspire people?
We would like to inspire people with our sound and story. Our goal is to prove that collaboration and creative freedom can change life and disrupt the status quo. Music has always been the medium to express our individual personalities and to bring diverse groups together. Writing, performing and listening to great artists helped us grow as people and get through tougher times. We all got another family simply from our craft! If we inspire a few souls and enrich lives, somehow, with our songs, shameless banter and bedazzling moves on stage - for us that would be a real success - Zo
