South African singer songwriter TATUM rounds off the year with the release of her powerful indie pop ballad, ‘My Hands’, which is about finding the strength to leave a physically or emotionally abusive situation. TATUM took a moment to speak to us about some of her current inspirations and the importance of living bravely and always being yourself.

Stephen King’s IT

What city do you find most inspiring?

What were your inspirations when writing the song?
The idea of courage in the face of fear. That saying that “bravery is not the absence of fear but action in the face of fear” The moment when you finally stand up against the person you have feared for so long. Your hands shaking from that fear, yet you finally take action. That’s what inspired me. Bravery.

How would you like to inspire people?
I would like to inspire other young artists to create from the heart and to be real, to be themselves, instead of worrying what others think.
