The Artist Explains: Jaguar Jonze - 'Rabbit Hole'

Australian creative Jaguar Jonze speaks to us about her disorientating visuals for fuzzy indie rock single, ‘Rabbit Hole’, which explores her struggles with C-PTSD.

Where was the video filmed?
Literally, in the lounge room of the Director, Ribal Hosn. Our friend Joshua Jasper, who is a talented set designer, built it on top of Ribal’s living room space. The set is still up in his room as we haven’t had a chance to take it down yet!

How does the video connect with the song?
’Rabbit Hole’ is about my struggles with C-PTSD. I wanted to paint that space with the fear, distress and confusion that those episodes tend to be filled with.

Do you have any behind the scenes stories you could share with us?

We did that whole video with a budget of $400. I’m really blessed to have a bunch of creative friends who believe in what I do. So, every person who worked on it donated their time and talent. My shoes marked the floors and walls completely with black scuffs and Ribal spent so much of his time cleaning it in post-production. We’ve learned a lot for the next time.

Can you tell us about the ideas/themes/imagery used?
I wanted the imagery to offset the darkness of the content. That nightmares can often happen in the brightness and sweetness of day.

Is there a message the video is trying to convey?
I think, the video is more a space of sharing rather than a message.
