Stoke-On-Trent artist Average Joe has just released his bluesy jazz fueled single ‘Taxi’, the track sees him channeling elements from soul and hip-hop with his own unique attitude thrown in. Average Joe took a moment to talk to us about the track and the inspirations behind it.

Who are your top three musical inspirations?
My mother, she always sang to me, my father, he had great records and took me to gigs, and Lionel Bart. Oliver! (the musical) was one of the first films I watched as a child.

Is there a certain film that inspires you?
Too many to mention, recently Paul Wright’s Arcadia, it's a montage of British Archive footage, with a great soundtrack, brooding, dark, transcendent in parts. We are a strange breed on these islands, always were, always will be.

What city do you find the most inspiring?
Stoke-on-trent, its my home town, a funny old place, best thing about it is the people, acerbic as scousers, resolute as mancunians, industrious as brummies.

Who is the most inspiring person to you?
Jesus Christ, I don't know.

What were your inspirations when writing the track?
The thought of looming contractual obligations to the record company, and a shed load of Jameson’s.

How would you like to inspire people?
I wouldn't, at a push I guess just to follow your own path don't follow the trends, do what you love, something along those lines.
