Cruel Hearts Club talked to us about running away from a mundane life and journeying to paradise with the single/music video, ‘Suck It Up’.

So, your new track ‘Suck It Up’ is out now, can you tell us what it’s about?
It's a runaway song - sick of mundane life and a journey to paradise

With the single, you have a great music video featuring your kids, can you tell us about the idea behind featuring them and how was the whole experience?
We thought it would be a really powerful image to see women and children coming together as one team. All of us against the world. Literally it was one of the most exhausting but amazing shoots we've ever done.  They say never work with kids or animals... but - you know, the kids were so unbelievably brilliant, they really brought a vibe with them - that kind of Mad Max energy that we felt the song conveyed.   Kind of scary how much they loved graffitiing and spitting on the camera man - he had to put a coat over his head because they were pelting him!

Any behind the scenes stories from the filming process that you are happy to share with us?We did the final scenes at about 7pm on a beach in Margate, and it got to about 10pm and just as we were finishing the last shot it started pouring with rain. We were about half a mile down the shore and had so much stuff to carry (including a drum kit and a fire pit and 4 suitcases) and 5 tired grumpy kids. We had to carry everything a 100ft at a time and then go back for the rest. We were laughing the whole walk back because it was just so ridiculous. We all got in a big bed and ate pizza as soon as we got in, it was bliss.

‘Suck It Up’ touches on escapism and starting a fresh, why did you want to convey this message and what’s the general story behind the lyrics?
It can be interpreted in so many ways really, but we wanted it to feel empowering for whoever was listening. You can do what you want, when you want, and you don’t have to feel bad about it.

You’ve been announced as the support for Sting at his London residency in September, can you tell us how that came about what people can expect from your shows?
We supported Sting last year in Lyon, France for a one-off show and we hung out with him after.  He is genuinely a really gorgeous person and great to talk to, so we were super happy that he's asked us to come and support him again for his run of London shows in September.  We'll pull out all the stops like we do for all our gigs and probably be playing some new material too.

So, 2019 was a great year for you, what does 2020 hold in store for you?
We're going in the studio to finish off a couple of new tracks and putting out another single in a couple of months with an album hopefully out by the end of the year.
