Let us introduce you to Cardiff’s Panic Shack, who have just released their debut single ‘Who’s Got My Lighter?’ via Brace Yourself Records. The thrilling punk track plays ode to the life of smoking - the band took a moment to talk to us about the track and why they can’t be trusted with a Zippo.

So, your new track ‘Who’s Got My Lighter?’ is out now, what is the track about?
WGML is about the very relatable and disappointing realisation that someone has nicked your lighter on a night out.

What color lighter are you? And are you a clipper kind of person? Or more a Zippo?
We can’t be trusted to look after a zippo, or refill it. You can’t invest that kind of money on something that can go missing so easily. And we’re on a pink and leopard print kinda vibe, can't you tell?

The track was recorded by Tom Rees, who is from Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, how did that partnership come about? How was the recording experience?
We were Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard fans from the get go and Cardiff is a small city, we’re all friends here! Tom was one of the first people we asked for advice in the early days and recording with him was an obvious choice. We hadn’t played a gig at this point and we were new to everything. Tom made us feel comfortable and did a cracking job.

You come from the wonderful city of Cardiff, where do you go for musical kicks?
Clwb Ifor Bach of course, they put on the best shows in Cardiff… we’re also partial to a bit of karaoke at the Blue Honey Night Cafe.

How did the band come into existence?
Our first practice was in Meg’s spare room… that's once we had worked up the courage to all sing and play in front of each other. We’re all like-minded gals that loved going to gigs and thought ‘let’s have a go at this band thing ourselves!'

Who would you say are your key influences musically? Do you all share a similar tastes?
We all share similar tastes and have a wide span of genres and eras. Key influences include The Slits, ESG, The Clash, Talking Heads, Confidence Man, The Chats, lots of old and new.

Now the track is out there, what next?
Gigs, gigs and gigs and more recording!
